About Whitemyer Advertising, a full-service advertising agency located in the historic village of Zoar, Ohio

Our Story

Back in 1969, during a visit to the Atwood Lake region, Don Whitemyer conceived what appeared at the time to be a wild idea. Having grown up in the country, the thought of applying his advertising skills somewhere outside the big city had a lot of appeal. Two years later, in the spring of 1971, what was first conjured up to be the “Agency in the Woods” became the first and largest advertising agency in the tiny, historic village of Zoar.

During those first few months, TRW Automotive Replacement Division and a few other businesses kept the Whitemyer Advertising doors open with special assignments. Before the year was out, however, the agency landed a small industrial vacuum manufacturer in Dover, Ohio, as its first full-service client.

The years that followed have been exciting, to say the very least. The agency maintained a steady growth that would soon make it the largest ad agency in the Tuscarawas area and one of the most respected agencies in northeastern Ohio.

The Zoar location turned out to be a major asset and it was obvious early on just how much clients and suppliers enjoyed visiting Zoar. It was a pleasant place to do business. And it still is.

Today, Whitemyer Advertising has achieved a highly respected position in the advertising agency business and was the first in the area to claim membership in the prestigious American Association of Advertising Agencies. And there’s so much more. Clearly, that old “Agency in the Woods” thinking is alive and well in Zoar. The dream goes on...
